Hdtv Fades; Uhdtv Rises

With most households' conversion to HDTV nearly complete and with sales of sets down during the holiday season despite huge price cuts due to saturation, manufacturers have begun unveiling new UHDTV (Ultra High-Definition TV) products boasting four times the definition of current HDTV models. At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Monday, Korean maker LG presented its new 55-inch and 65-inch sets. Pricing was not disclosed, but the company has already introduced an 84-inch model that sells for $20,000. Not to be outdone, Samsung showed off a new 110-inch Ultra High-Definition set. Reporters who attended the unveiling of the new sets indicated that one can sit relatively close to the screen and have an IMAX-like experience. Initial pricing of the new models appear to be about as enormous as the sets themselves: $15,000-$20,000.
