Green Day - Have Green Day Tickets? We Have Some Bad News
Green Day has cancelled the remainder of its North American tour as Billie Joe Armstrong continues treatment for substance abuse issues, the band announced on their website Monday (October 29, 2012). Scheduled appearances for January and February 2013 have also been postponed.
In a statement, bassist Mike Dirnt said, “Obviously, the timing for this isn’t ideal, but Billie Joe’s well-being is our main concern…We are happy to say that Billie Joe is doing well, and we want to thank you all for the outpouring of support and well wishes that we have received, and we can’t wait to see you all again soon.” Despite a plan to release three albums in quick succession, the band’s schedule was severely derailed when Armstrong suffered an on-stage meltdown at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas in September, claiming he was being cut off and sarcastically likening himself to Justin Bieber. The band was supposed to headline the recent New Orleans’ Voodoo Music Experience on Saturday, though Metallica were on-hand to step in. Of the show cancellations, drummer Tre Cool added, “We feel bad we have to delay our tour, so to make up for it we want to give our fans the music earlier than we had planned…If we couldn’t be there to play it for you live, the least we could do was give you the next best thing”.
Tickets for the shows will be refunded at the point of purchase, with new dates set to be announced shortly. Tre!, the final instalment in the group’s album trilogy, will be released on January 15, 2012.
