Hasselhoff Set To Return To Baywatch , Playing Himself
The long-rumored feature-film version of Baywatch may finally be approaching reality, David Hasselhoff, the star of the original TV series, has confirmed. In an interview at the White Nights of St. Petersburg arts festival with Bang Showbiz, a British celebrity news service, Hasselhoff disclosed that he will not be reprising his role as the hunky lifeguard Mitch Buchanan in the movie. Instead, he'll be playing .... David Hasselhoff. He told the news service, "I've just met the guy writing the film. I'm going to play myself." There was no indication whether the role would be significant or merely a Cameo. Will any of The Others who appeared in the original series -- on NBC in 1989 and then in syndication from 1991-1999 -- be appearing in the movie? Hasselhoff said that he simply doesn't know -- but they've had a script for four years. "There will be certain people in the movie for the original parts and we're trying to make it a very cool, updated version," Hasselhoff said. When Pamela Anderson was asked in an Us magazine interview in 2009 whether she would consider reprising her role in a Baywatch movie, she replied adamantly, "Never! I'm not going do it. ... I liked the TV show. I don't like it when they ruin it by making a movie out of it."
