Has Leona Lewis Gone Dubstep For New Album?

Has Leona Lewis jumped on the dubstep bandwagon? It certainly seems that way, if her Hackney Weekend performance is anything to go by. Leona is putting the finishing touches to her next album, entitled 'Glassheart' and during her performance yesterday (June 24, 2012) at the London festival, she debuted a new track that suggests she's adopted the sounds of the south London suburbs into her pop songs.

Leona introduced the track to the audience at the pre-Olympics celebratory bash, by saying "so this next song is a new song from my next album. It's called 'Come Alive and it's the first time I've performed it, so gimme some love guys." She then launched into the track, which was a far cry from the ballads that she's been used to performing since she left the environs of the X factor contest, which she won in 2006. A live recording of the track has been posted on YouTube and reveals a brooding, sultry dance track, with a few textbook dubstep drops in it. Dubstep fans are notoriously precious of the genre; it's unlikely they'll take too kindly to it being adopted by a former TV talent show winner.

In an interview at the Hackney Weekender, Lewis revealed that she's proud of the new album, saying "All the songs are strong. There will be no fillers. I'm so proud of it. It has a dark edge and even has a bit of dubstep in it. I just want my fans to hear it now."
