Harry Potter "Boost" For Madeleine Search

by | 17 July 2007

The parents of the missing four-year-old Madeleine McCann have reacted to the "massive boost" to their campaign from Harry Potter author JK Rowling.

Ms Rowling has asked all retailers to display a special poster of Madeleine when the final book in the Potter saga – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – goes on sale on July 21st.

Writing on his blog on the website findmadeleine.com, Gerry McCann said the highly successful author had offered "amazing support" to help find his and his wife Kate's daughter.

Madeleine was abducted from the family's holiday apartment in the Praia da Luz resort in Portugal on May 3rd.

Ms Rowling lived in Portugal for a number of years and she has offered a large reward for Madeleine's safe return as well as publicising the campaign to find the four-year-old on her personal website.

Mr McCann added: "The distribution of this poster will enhance the awareness of Madeleine's disappearance, which we are advised increases the chances of finding her, and the plight of other missing children.

"With the announcement of the poster Kate and I also did a short interview for the press. A lot of photographs were taken of us with the poster so I suspect some of these will make it in to the newspapers in the next few days."

The McCanns are now back in Portugal after attending a family baptism in the UK where they stood as godparents during what Mr McCann described as a "lovely" service.

It is the first time Mrs McCann has been back to the UK since Madeleine was abducted.
