CRASH director Paul Haggis refused to listen to rumours that his film would beat Brokeback Mountain for the Best Picture Oscar and still can't believe he actually won. The Canadian native thought the much-hyped Brokeback Mountain would walk off with the Oscar and is stunned his film took home the top prize. He says, "We were shocked. We're still trying to work out if we actually even got this." The director, who also picked up an award for Best Original Screenplay for the film, claims not being from Los Angeles actually helped him craft his story about race relations in the city. Haggis adds, "Being an outsider in this town is a good thing. As an artist, being an outsider anywhere is a good thing."
