Gurrumul Honoured At Australia's National Indigenous Music Awards
13 August 2012The singer/songwriter, full name Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu, was due to play seven shows in Europe in July (12) but he pulled the gigs to deal with his ill health.
However, he was honoured with the Artist of the Year award at the Saturday ceremony in Darwin for the second year in a row.
Rockers The Medics dominated the prizegiving, which celebrate Indigenous music acts from across Australia, picking up the Best Song, Best Album and Best New Talent Award honours.
Singer Jimmy Little, who died in April (12), was posthumously inducted into the Hall of Fame.
