Gunshots At Benigni Recital

Oscar winner ROBERTO BENIGNI was left ducking for cover at a recital in Cosenza, Italy on Tuesday night (28Aug07) when a man shot a security guard who refused him entry to the event. Benigni was reading a poem by 13th century Italian poet Dante when the shots rang out. The unnamed gunman, who did not have a ticket to the recital, fired off six shots, five of which hit the security guard in the leg. The guard is expected to recover from the incident, but is expected to remain hospitalised for at least 40 days. Benigni's performance was not affected by the incident.
