Superhero blockbuster Guardians Of The Galaxy has proved a hit on both sides of the Atlantic by topping the U.K box office chart with opening weekend (01-03Aug14) takings of $10.7 million (£6.3 million).
The movie, starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista, netted $94 million (£55.3 million) in the U.S. and it has repeated its opposition-smashing feat in Britain.
It knocked Dawn of the Planet of the Apes into second place after two weeks at the top, with ticket sales of $5 million (£2.9 million), and How To Train Your Dragon 2 rose one place to third, with $1.7 million (£1 million).
Action movie Hercules fell from second to fourth, with $1.5 million (£900,000), and the top five was rounded out by horror sequel The Purge: Anarchy, which took $1.3 million (£811,000).
