Superhero movie Green Lantern has replicated its U.S. success on the other side of the Atlantic by shooting to the top of Britain's box office chart.
The film, starring Ryan Reynolds, took $3.8 million (£2.4 million) in its opening weekend, knocking animated comedy Kung Fu Panda 2 into second place with takings of $3.5 million (£2.2 million).
Bad Teacher, starring Cameron Diaz, went straight in at number three by earning $3 million (£1.9 million), and the top five is rounded out by The Hangover Part II ($2.4 million/£1.5 million) and X-Men: First Class ($1.9 million/£1.2 million).
In the U.S., Green Lantern also leads the field with opening weekend takings of $52.7 million (£33 million).
A sleekly made thriller with a sparky sense of humour, this is also a rare action movie that has something important to say.
