GREEN DAY marked the departure of the KAISER CHIEFS from their ongoing U.S. tour by playing a series of pranks on the British rockers - including hiring a brass band to invade the stage during their set.
The American Idiot hitmakers are currently midway through a massive global trek and they were joined by the Kaiser Chiefs, who opened for them at a string of dates across the U.S.
The bands played their last gig together on Saturday (08Aug09) in New Orleans, Louisiana - but the rock trio didn't let their stagemates escape their tradition of playing jokes on their support acts.
Kaiser Chiefs drummer Nick Hodgson explains: "Every time when they have support bands, the final night they sort of prank the band. We got off really lightly I think. If you look at YouTube, there's some support bands that have had bad things happen to them, but (Green Day) organised a Louisiana/New Orleans old time brass band and they got them into the arena.
"When we started (hit track) I Predict a Riot, this band came on and then Green Day came on, and they were playing cowbells. It was a shock. I just wonder whether the people of New Orleans think that's our regular type of performance."
And Hodgson admits that wasn't the only gag they were subjected to - their rock pals also covered all their instruments in toilet roll.
He adds, "Toilet Paper. They T.P.'d (toilet paper-ed) us. (They covered our) drums, instruments. It was live on stage."
