Great White - Great White Concert Victims Remembered At Memorial
Mourners gathered at a service in Rhode Island on Sunday (17Feb13) to remember the music fans who perished in the infamous Great White concert fire in 2003.
Friends, family and survivors turned out to the site of the deadly nightclub blaze to pay their respects to the 100 people who died in The Station nightclub disaster on 20 February, 2003.
Rockers Great White were playing onstage when an ill-advised pyrotechnics display ignited flammable packing foam used to soundproof the venue.
The memorial featured a speech from former Rhode Island Governor Don Carcieri, as well as musical performances, a reading of the names of those who died and 100 seconds of silence.
Carcieri recalled how bereft families came together to support each other in the days after the club horror, according to the Associated Press.
He said, "At a time of our state's worst tragedy, in some sense, it was our people's finest hour."
