Goldie Hawn - Goldie Hawn Still Prefers To Be Kurt Russell's Girlfriend, Not Wife

The Private Benjamin star began dating actor Russell in 1983 after they co-starred in Swing Shift, and they have become one of few Hollywood couples whose romance has stood the test of time - without the need for marriage rings.

Hawn is adamant she has no plans to take the relationship to the next level - because they are "happy" with their lifestyle.

Speaking on U.S. talk show The View on Friday (30Sep11), she said, "We're not gonna get married. I mean, we're happy. I still like the idea that I'm his girlfriend. And, in a way, the kids like it. We asked the kids about marriage early on and we said, 'Shall we get married?'... and they said, 'No, no!'"

But Hawn insists she would never force her own views on to her daughter Kate Hudson, who is preparing to wed for the second time after becoming a new mum.

Hawn explains, "I was married twice. I think that there's a sense of idealism really about wanting to be married and have a family... My feeling is our journey is our journey, and there isn't any way we're gonna put a stop or should (put a stop to it) because it's all a learning process. How are we gonna learn? How are we gonna know?

"We follow our instincts and impulses. If they're for the good, which is to create a family, to do something good, more power to you. If it works out, that's awesome. If it doesn't, well, you know you're part of a very large statistic. So I think the whole way of looking at it is with an optimistic view."

Hudson and British rock star Matt Bellamy announced their engagement in April (11) and welcomed their first child together, baby boy Bingham, in July (11). The Almost Famous actress was previously wed to The Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson.
