Glitter Refuses To Board To UK After 'Heart Attack'

by | 20 August 2008

Ex-popstar Gary Glitter has refused to board a flight to the UK, claiming he was suffering a heart attack.

He was earlier released from prison in Vietnam after serving almost three years for sexual molestation of underage girls.

Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, had arrived in Bangkok, Thailand, where he was due to board a connecting flight back to the UK.

However, the 64-year-old refused to leave the Thai airport due to his health condition and demanded to be allowed to stay in the country or another Asian nation.

Thailand's immigration has reportedly declared Glitter "persona non grata" and is threatening to return him to Vietnam.

The disgraced star has been refused entry into the country despite his attempt to receive medical attention.

"Officials concerned are working through the process of putting him on the plane to take him out of the country, but if he continues to refuse to leave then he will be confined in the [transit] area temporarily before being taken into a detention centre," Lieutenant General Chatchawal Suksomchit, head of Thailand's immigration police, told the Associated Press new agency.

Glitter was sentenced to three years for "obscene acts with children" after being jailed in November 2005.

His sentence was reduced by three months for good behaviour in February this year.

Should Glitter return to the UK he will be met by police and forced to sign the sex offenders register.

In 1999 he was sentenced to four months in jail in the UK after pleading guilty to charges of downloading pornography depicting children being abused.

He shot to fame in the 1970s for his glam-rock performances of songs including I Love You Love Me Love and Do You Wanna Touch Me.
