Glen Hansard - Glen Hansard Feared Broadway Producers Would Ruin Once

Singer/actor Glen Hansard harboured serious doubts about turning his cult film Once into a Broadway musical because he feared it would "ruin" the legacy of the independent movie.
The stage adaptation of the Oscar-winning 2006 romantic drama, which featured words and lyrics written by its stars Hansard and Marketa Irglova, has proved to be a huge hit with New York critics and theatre-goers alike, but the rocker admits he was initially fiercely opposed to the project.
He tells the New York Post, "I was horrified at the prospect of it being on Broadway.
"I was really worried that it might ruin the simplicity of the film or that it would be overly schmaltzy, or even worse they’d stick a bunch of dancing in for no reason! But they kept on getting great people involved and gradually, I came around to the idea. I remember going to see the rehearsals and thinking we were in safe hands."
The Broadway show dominated the Tony Awards earlier this month (Jun12), claiming eight of its 10 nominations, including titles for Best Musical and Best Actor in a Musical for Steve Kazee.
