Charice Pempengco was in mourning last night after it was revealed her father had been stabbed to death back in her native Philippines, causing the Glee star to pull out of a scheduled concert in Singapore.
People Magazine reports that Pempengco had been estranged from her father, telling Oprah Winfrey back in 2008 of a horrifying incident when she was just three years old, during which "My dad was about to shoot my mom, and I couldn't do anything, we left my dad, and after that, I never saw him and I don't want to see him". However, taking on Twitter today (November 1st 2011) she said "I loved him and I still love him . he is still my father after all", going on to cancel her performance which would have been as part of the David Foster and Friends concert. She simply stated "I have to go back to the Philippines as soon as possible to be with my family."
Associated Press reports that the father of the star, 40 year-old construction worker Ricky Pempengco, had been at a grocery store south of Phillipino capital Manila when he'd brushed past a drunken man; the drunk then reportedly stabbed him with an ice pick in the chest and the back. The killing has been reported as random and a 20,000 pesos ($470) reward has been offered for any information that might lead to the man's arrest.
