Glee Michael Jackson Episode: Round-up Of Reviews

Billboard have published a recap of last night's Glee episode, which was a tribute to Michael Jackson. It was the eleventh episode in the third series of the popular show, which blends youth drama and musical theatre and Billboard summed it up by describing the episode as "more songs, more fantasy, less talking and less adults." It would appear that the show's producers let the music do the talking last night, with the "emotional speeches" merely providing bookends to the musical numbers, which were "strong, fantastical and poignant to the story."
The highlight of the episode appears to be New Directions' rendition of 'Bad', the classic Michael Jackson hit, which has them dueling with The Warblers in a 'Jackson-off.' Entertainment Weekly have reassured fans who didn't catch the show last night, asserting that the Jackson tribute has worked out better that the "bloated" tribute to Lady Gaga and that it's more engaging than the Madonna episode, which they describe as "mostly just a fun diversion." Their nod to the King of Pop, apparently, contained "some of this season's best dramatic and musical performances."
Praise for the Jacko tribute continued on the Washington Post's Celebritology blog, which hailed last night as having "featured some of the most memorable dialogue in Glee history." However, the blog author, Jen Chaney was critical of the musical numbers and wanted more of a unique interpretation of the songs. Instead, it would appear, they were "weak imitations" of Jackson's own previous performances.

I'm not a huge Glee fan though I watch it occasionally with my husband who is a major Gleek. I watched it last nite, however, with great anticipation as I love Michael. I thought they did a great job given that no one can really do Michael Jackson but Michael Jackson. He was so unique and so extraordinary that no cover will ever reach his level. What Glee did though was expose millions of young people to Michael's music all over again and honor Michael for the amazing artist that he was and for that I am grateful. And for God's sake, STOP calling him Jacko!!! His name is Michael Jackson and if that has too many letters for you, use MJ. There isn't a person on planet earth who won't know who you're talking about!

I love the reviews and opinions of the critics, but I am SO angry with them for referring to him as "Jacko" which not only is a disrespectful behavior for any journalist to have, but he hated it, hated it!!! The name hurt him and to use it now, is to walk on his grave!! I am tempted to contact their organization and post a complaint!

The "Glee" performers did a great job of paying tribute to a magnificent entertainer and humanitarian. I was especially happy with how they chose not to mess with the lyrics. They even added some of Michael's personality (hee, hee and singing hic-ups). They also made the songs reflect their own style and the shows storyline. However, I would think that this blog would refrain from using the term "Jacko" as it has it's roots in racism. Not only are you offending the fans, but you are also offending African Americans. Let's just use his name, MJ, or King of Pop, even "The Gloved One," please.

Michael is a liar and a phoney, he never had any intentions on living up to what he sings, ever. I knew him/hung with him, and had a relationship with him and he was only keeping up an image for the public, which he never wanted in the first place. In reality he didnt care for anyone that he loved or loved him back as long as he or his followers didnt go without that is all that mattered

Well someone said the name "Jacko" hurt him, well he has hurt many in his lifetime so now he knows how it feels. If he was alive he would continue to hurt.

We love hearing good things like this. Glee is awesome and clearly loves and respects Michael Jackson as an artist and human being. Please show the same respect by referring to him by name -- Michael Jackson, Jackson or even King of Pop if you prefer. Ditch the Jacko moniker. He hated it because he knew it was a term of derision and mockery. The fans hate it. I certainly hate it. Don't distract your readers from enjoying the review.
