Glee - Glee Gay Slur Was Wrong Say Vanity Fair

Glee has found itself at the centre of homophobia row after a Vanity Fair writer labelled some of the show's character's 'fags'.

Glee, the hit-musical comedy show which features a number of homosexual characters, has received an apology from the editors of Vanity Fair magazine after one of its writers labelled the show's cast 'fags', reports the Toronto Sun.

Gay writer BRETT BERK, who works for the magazine's website, came in for heavy criticism for using the term while writing about a recent episode that featured a number of homosexual characters. The term is considered homophobic and Berk received a series of angry messages from readers. Vanity Fair's editors have since issued an apology, distancing themselves from Berk's remarks, the statement reads, "Brett, who has repeatedly referred to himself as VF.com's "fun and f**gy editor" (a title the editors have declined to endorse), writes from a humorous and explicitly gay perspective, and his invocation of this complicated word was meant to critique the notion that the gay characters of Glee should feel obliged to play straight on stage. That said, we recognize that the column caused genuine offence to many readers, and we apologize unreservedly to them".

Glee characters 'Kurt' and 'Blaine', played by Chris Colfer and Darren Criss, are openly gay characters in the HBO series.
