Gibson Goes To Rehab

LATEST: Troubled star Mel Gibson has checked himself into a recovery programme for alcohol abuse.
Gibson was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Malibu, California early Friday (28JUL06) morning.
The Oscar-winner's representative, ALAN NEIROB, confirmed the actor had entered rehab, saying he was "participating in an ongoing program to deal with this. The guy is trying to stay alive."
Neirob declined to describe the program or say how long Gibson planned to be there.
On Saturday (29JULY06), Gibson issued a statement apologising for his behaviour after the arrest.
The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department turned the case over to the district attorney Monday (31JUL06) and the DA's office is now reviewing the information to determine whether to press charges.
Controversy erupted over the weekend (ends30JUL06) over allegations the Sheriff's Department was considering removing offensive remarks Gibson made at the time of his arrest from the official report.
However, a law enforcement official said the report the sheriff's department turned over Monday substantiates claims that Gibson made anti-Semitic remarks and threatened a deputy.
DA spokesperson JANE ROBINSON tells American publication People, "We believe we received a complete report, but can't comment on the details of it." An arraignment is set for 28 September (06).
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Disney said Monday (31JUL06) the studio plans to release Gibson's latest film, APOCALYPTO, as scheduled 8 December (06).

Yeah, he made a huge mistake and knowing peoples nature, it will probably ruin him, in a way that was bound to happen sooner or later. We all know he’s an alcohol addict. You never recover from that illness. You have to fight it constantly. And it only takes a bad day and a couple of beers to drag you from fame to ‘bad guy’ as it seems.I don’t think he’s a bad guy. I think fame costs. He's living in a glass house. People wanting your autograph but if you make a mistake, they crucify you instantly and with devilish pleasure.I really hope this incident (and that is what is really was!) won’t emotionally bankrupt him entirely and that people realise that he’s just human and that we do all make mistakes. We all say stupid things when we are drunk, we don’t think clearly and perhaps he had to swallow some major insults(AGAIN)about his movie “The Passion” that evening, who knows. A movie he (and only he)dared to make. A movie which made him vulnerable in many different ways. He showed his honest believes to the world. And it is (imho) just BECAUSE he made that movie he is being punished double now.Let’s just suppose he really is a jewhater (which I do not believe to be so)he will be punished by his own God for it and it’s not our job to throw stones. He has to figure it out with his God and I think he's his own biggest enemy, and that is the most difficult war there is.I am apalled to read weblogs and columns in newspapers that incite we all should boycott him. Who are they to shout such messages. I think (sober)people who do so are a great deal worse than the (drunk)mistake Mel Gibson made. He was drunk then, we can react sober. Let’s please act that way. Let’s not lose this great creative man.(And yes I know this was a very long reply, I’m sorry for that and yes I am a FAN.)
