Gibson Axed From The Hangover Sequel

Mel Gibson's high-profile cameo in THE HANGOVER sequel has been axed amid reports the movie's cast angrily objected to sharing the spotlight with the troubled star.

The Braveheart star has had a tough 2010 following his nasty split from ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, who has accused the actor of beating her in a violent altercation, which she caught in a series of abusive taped phone rants, in January (10).

He was expected to bounce back from his troubles with a light-hearted guest role in The Hangover follow-up.

However, director Todd Phillips has confirmed he was forced to scrap Gibson's cameo following tensions on-set.

A statement from Phillips reads, "I thought Mel would have been great in the movie and I had the full backing of (Warner Brothers boss) Jeff Robinov and his team. But I realize filmmaking is a collaborative effort, and this decision ultimately did not have the full support of my entire cast and crew."

Earlier this month (Oct10), The Hangover's stand-out star Zach Galifianakis hinted he had been in turmoil over an undisclosed decision by the sequel's producers, revealing in a podcast, "I'm in a deep protest right now with a movie I'm working on, up in arms about something. But I can't get the guys to (listen)... I'm not making any leeway."

The Hangover 2 reteams Galifianakis with Bradley Cooper, Justin Bartha and Ed Helms.
