Spy spoof Get Smart has claimed the number one spot at the US box office after its first weekend on release.
The Warner Bros/Village Roadshow production, based on the 1960s television series, shot to the top of the charts after taking an impressive $39.1 million (£19.9 million) in its first three days at the cinema.
"We always knew we had the goods, and we couldn't have asked for a better start," Warner president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman told Variety after the success of the film, starring Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway and Dwayne Johnson.
But there was a less stellar performance from the weekend's other major new release, The Love Guru.
Despite heavy promotion, the Mike Myers comedy could only manage fourth spot in the charts with $14 million (£7.1 million), with former number one movies Kung Fu Panda and The Incredible Hulk both proving more appealing to US moviegoers.
The Incredible Hulk fell two places to third while Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull as well as Adam Sandler comedy You Don't Mess with the Zohan both dropped out of the top five.
