Ricky Gervais - Gervais: 'I Won't Be Back As Globes Host'

Funnyman RICKY GERVAIS doesn't expect to be invited back as the host of the Golden Globe Awards in 2012 after upsetting the organisers of Sunday's (16Jan11) prizegiving with his risque humour.
The Brit has come under fire from critics for going too far with his humour at the event - with Tom Hanks and Robert Downey, Jr. both taking aim at Gervais for his "mean-spirited" comments at the expense of celebrity guests from the stage.
And now the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, who also fired back at the host for comments he made about him during the ceremony, has spoken out about Gervais' jibes.
Phillip Berk tells The Hollywood Reporter, "He definitely crossed the line, and some of the things were totally unacceptable. But that’s Ricky.
"Any of the references to individuals is certainly not something the Hollywood Foreign Press condones."
Berk was introduced onstage by his host after he joked he had to help the Aussie film critic off a toilet and "pop his teeth in".
Trying to laugh off the gag, Berk awkwardly told the audience, "Ricky, next time you want me to help you qualify your movies, go to another guy."
The president of the HFPA is refusing to comment on his plans for next year's Golden Globes host, but Gervais is convinced it won't be him.
He tells USA Today, "I probably won’t be here next year."

I have to say that the organizers should of been prepared for Ricky's humour judging by his previous performances as host.On a personal basis, I think his humour was fantastic and in many instances, very true. When you hire a comedian (especially british) to be host, you should expect this humour as they are entertainers (I REPEAT, 'ENTERTAINERS') and if you don't like it, shut up or get out.Has anybody ever seen the comedy roast shows? Well, this is exactly what it was and it was fantastic.Comedy has changed and if you want a host to obey the terms and conditions of their contract, hire a rabbi, nun, priest or a homeless person. Get real, this is 2011 and not 1975.With all due respect, hiring Ricky is likely to increase the viewing figures of these normally dull programs as his unpredictable, all together I loved it and I salute Ricky on a job well done.
