Gervais Delivers Globes Post Mortem
Ricky Gervais on Tuesday agreed with those critics who concluded that his remarks at Sunday night's Golden Globes awards weren't all that outrageous. The thing is, Gervais suggested, they weren't last year either. People, he said, "finally worked out that my gags only seemed rude and nasty but were actually not too scary at all." Either that, he said, "or they were just drunker." In any event, he said on his website, he definitely won't be returning to host another Golden Globes ceremony. "I've told my agent to never let me be persuaded to do it again though. It's like a parachute jump. You can only really enjoy it in retrospect when you realize you didn't die and it was quite an amazing thing to do." It was not the first time that Gervais had said he wouldn't return as the show's host. On Tuesday night's Late Night with David Letterman , Gervais said that he wasn't going to do it this year. "But a lot of people were saying 'he'll never be invited back', so I did it to annoy them."
