George Michael - George Michael Sides With Church In Gay Marriage Row
George Michael is convinced gay marriage in the U.K. will fail if churches are forced to conduct same-sex unions.
Gay couples are currently allowed to have civil partnerships in Britain, but the U.K. government is considering changing the law so the unions can be called marriages.
The Catholic Church and the Church of England are vehemently against the move, and some religious leaders fear they may be forced to oversee ceremonies in places of worship under law.
Michael, who is openly gay, insists same-sex marriage should be allowed, but not at the detriment of church traditions.
He tells Scottish radio station Clyde 1, "Civil registration partnerships are legally correct. They give people the same rights as people in marriage. But I don't believe in forcing it and I think it will fail if you force churches who don't believe in it to have gay marriage ceremonies."
