The brother of British actress Gemma Mccluskie has admitted a manslaughter charge relating to her death, but will still face a murder trial after prosecutors rejected his plea.

The former EastEnders actress went missing in February (12) and her decapitated, limbless torso was later discovered in London's Regent's Canal. Her severed head wasn't found until September (12), but the discovery paved the way for her loved ones to go ahead with her funeral, which finally took place last month (Nov12).

Tony MCCluskie, 35, appeared at London's Old Bailey court via videolink from Belmarsh prison on Friday (07Dec12) and pleaded not guilty to her murder.

He also entered a guilty plea to a charge of manslaughter relating to his sister's death, but the plea was rejected by prosecutors, who plan to press ahead with a murder trial.

The trial is due to begin on 14 January (13).
