Gemma Arterton - Gemma Arterton: My marriage was a wonderful time

Gemma Arterton doesn't regret her marriage because she had a ''wonderful'' time with her husband before they split.

The 27-year-old actress tied the knot with Italian businessman Stefano Catelli in June 2010 after dating him for a year but the relationship turned sour and they separated in February.

But Gemma insists she looks back on the romance with happy memories and is adamant she wouldn't change anything.

Speaking in the new UK issue of Marie Claire magazine, she revealed: ''It was a wonderful time and I have nothing bad to say about it. Even if they don't last relationships can enrich your life in some way and then you move on to the next part - it's all part of the process of living.''

However, the 'Byzantium' star doesn't think marriage is ''really necessary'' and fails to see the point of it unless people are religious, but her mum Sally thinks she might get married eight times like the late Dame Elizabeth Taylor.

Gemma said: ''I don't know how I feel about marriage; whether it's really necessary.

''If you are not religious, what does it mean? I'd always thought that - then I got married. And now I still believe in what I believed in when I was a child.

''I was talking to mum about it and she said, 'Yes, but sometimes marriage is all right. Sometimes, it works out. You could get married again. You could be like Elizabeth Taylor and be married eight times.' ''

While Gemma is known for remaining tight-lipped about her relationships, the British beauty insists she is ''deeply romantic'' but thinks it will ''take time'' to get over her separate from Stefano.

She added: ''I'm deeply romantic. But I don't allow it to come out very much. It's so closely associated with fear.

''I underestimate how long it might take me to heal. But it's OK. Of course it's going to take time. Christ, I've been doing a lot of yoga and trying to look after myself. At the moment, I just feel like I want to focus on my work.''
