Black Sabbath - Geezer Butler Boycotting U.k. Foie Gras Stockist
Black Sabbath star Geezer Butler has called on animal lovers to boycott a high-end British department store which stocks foie gras.
The bassist has written to Fortnum & Mason's chief executive, Ewan Venters, urging him to cease the sale of the controversial pate product, which is made from the engorged livers of force-fed geese.
In his letter, he writes, "I've been a musician for most of my life, and I'm not afraid to make some noise, especially when it comes to issues of cruelty to animals. I'll therefore be urging my family, friends and fans to stay away from Fortnum's... until you stop selling that vile foie gras.
"Do you really want to give two fingers to British animal welfare laws by being one of the only remaining retailers to sell this 'torture in a tin'?"
The rocker joined the cause after watching a graphic undercover expose filmed on foie gras farms by activists for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta).
Bond legend Sir Roger Moore, comedian Ricky Gervais and actress Joanna Lumley are also among the stars who have urged Fortnum & Mason to drop foie gras.
