Gay Activists To Boycott Madonna's St. Petersburg Show
Despite the announcement that Madonna is to condemn the recent Russian changes in the law whilst on stage, the Give Me All Your Luvin' singer has found herself being targeted by the Saint Petersburg Gay Russia movement.
Amidst a citywide law recently passed in Russia's second city that equates publicly promoting homosexuality to minors as paedophilia, the Queen of pop, Madonna has found herself at the centre of a row between city officials and gay rights activists, AFP reports. Madonna will visit the former Soviet state in August 2012 for shows in both Moscow and Saint Petersburg, with organisers of Russia's annual Gay Pride planning "public protests" during both shows.
Despite Madge's insistence that she'll condemn the new legislation on stage, the Russian activists remain unimpressed by her insistence to play the shows and plan to "protest against the hypocrisy of pop stars."
Yury Gavrikov, the head of Saint Petersburg's Gay Russia movement has pleaded that if "people like Madonna boycott their concerts particularly in Saint Petersburg that could have economic consequences, and that is important, whilst declarations. at concerts mean nothing." In spite of these appeals, Madonna seemingly remains steadfast in her decision to perform releasing a statement through her facebook page saying, "I will speak during my show about this ridiculous atrocity" .
Madonna is set to release her twelfth studio album MDNA later this month. The international superstar is gearing up to start her worldwide tour and recently posted a picture of her bruised body and a fat lip claiming the tour rehearsals were taking a toll on her body.
