Gary Glitter Arrested In Expanding Bbc Sex Scandal

Paul Gadd, a pop singer known in the 1970s as Gary Glitter, was arrested in his London home on Sunday in connection with the spreading sex scandal that erupted with allegations that the late BBC star Jimmy Savile had sexually molested dozens -- perhaps hundreds -- of underage girls while he was hosting such popular shows as Top of the Pops and Jim'll Fix It. Meanwhile the London Sunday Times reported that the office of former BBC Director General Mark Thompson was contacted -- twice -- about the allegations against Savile but that his aides apparently did not inform Thompson of the calls. Thompson, who is due to become CEO of the New York Times, has denied that he had any knowledge of Savile's conduct.
