Gary Ross - Gary Ross In Talks To Direct Harry Houdini Biopic

Gary Ross is evidently a man with a lot of chutzpah. That much was evident when he walked away from what's looking like being one of the hottest franchises in years in 'The Hunger Games' after directing just the debut flick. That flick has now gone on to gross over $600 million worldwide off a budget of just $78 million and is more than likely to get near or even surpass those sort of figures in ensuing outings.
However Ross will not be a part of it; but what will he be a part of? Well, if reports in the UK newspaper The Guardian are to be believed, the director will be heading up a biopic of none other than the master of escapology himself, Harry Houdini. Ross is in talks to direct an adaptation of a book by William Kalush and Larry Sloman called 'The Secret Life Of Houdini: The Making Of America's First Superhero' that claims that he was recruited by both US and British intelligence services.
The Hungarian-born Houdini died in 1926, supposedly after being punched in the stomach keen to test the maverick's muscles - evidently not too great then - and has been the centre of film works on him in the past, not least 2007's 'Death Defying Acts' in which he was played by Guy Pearce. Having Ross on board for this one however will surely give the latest representation of his life greater gravitas.
