Gary Glitter Free To Travel Abroad Again
The 67 year-old initially came to fame in the early 1970s with his first two albums 'Glitter' and 'Touch Me' both charting in the UK Top 10 and the performer also gaining three UK number one singles with 'I'm The Leader Of The Gang (I Am)', 'I Love You Love Me Love' and 'Always Yours'. However he eventually gained notoriety for all the wrong reasons when, in 1999, he was imprisoned for four months after being found possessing images of child sex abuse. Worse was to come for Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, after he was convicted in Vietnam of sexually assaulting two girls and spent three years in jail there before being deported back to Britain in disgrace.
Now The Guardian reports that the Metropolitan Police took the decision not to ask for a renewal of an existing order banning Glitter from travelling abroad. A court has to believe there's a risk of re-offence to grant an order again. The shamed star does remain on the sex offender's list however, and must ask for permission if he is to go abroad for three days or more.
