Further Details About Nurse Jacintha Saldanha Are Revealed at Inquest
Speculation has been rife about why Nurse Jacintha Saldanha killed herself after the highly publicised story of an Australian radio station that pranked the hospital in which Duchess Kate Middleton was being treated for severe morning sickness. Ms Saldanha picked up the phone and put the call through which lead to the story spreading across the world. Soon after, she was found dead in the hospital, and later a suicide note was reported to have been found. Although there are still no conclusive answers, the inquest held today revealed a little more information about her death.
As in the Independent reports, Ms Saldanha hanged herself, and left three notes. Two were found in the room she was found in, and a further in her personal possessions. The Metropolitan Police have also said that they will be communicating with Australian police colleagues to widen their investigation and examine the surrounding circumstances of the incident.
Detective Chief Inspector James Harman also explained how she was found, saying that a fellow nurse and a security guard found her hanging, with cuts on her wrists, but added that there were no 'suspicious circumstances' to her death, which means that they don't believe there to be a second party involved in her death.
As well as police authorities in both the UK and Australia working on the case, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has said that it has opened an investigation into the prank as well. The Indpendent also reports that 2Day FM, the radio station that made the prank, has been criticized in the past for similar tactless segments and shows, it may even lose its broadcasting license.
