Avatar is making a comeback. According to figures from Box Office Mojo, the 20th Century Fox blockbuster, which was displaced at the top of the box-office list by Sony/Screen Gems' Dear John over the weekend, is back on top again. Its worst defeat, it now appears, came on Friday when it earned $6.16 million versus Dear John 's $13.76 million. But Avatar 's take increased 87 percent on Saturday to $11.54 million, just 7 percent below Dear John 's $12.47 million, which was down 9 percent from Friday. On Sunday, the Super Bowl took its toll on both films, but surprisingly enough Avatar , which has drawn a prominently male audience, pulled in $5.15 million, overtaking Dear John , whose audience was 84 percent female, which drew just $4.23 million. Avatar , now in its eighth week, remained ahead on Monday with $2.25 million against Dear John 's $2.14 million. (Weekdays tend to attract mostly female audiences.) Both films face tough competition next weekend, however, and analysts are predicting that they will likely fall to Warner Bros.' star-studded romantic comedy Valentine's Day and Universal's remake of the horror classic The Wolfman -- and perhaps even Fox's Percy Jackson & the Olympians The Lightning Thief .
