Disney's animated winter tale Frozen has put its rivals on ice to take the top spot at the U.K. box office, ending The Hunger Games: Catching Fire's two-week run at number one.

The festive tale, which features the voices of Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel, took $7.1 million (£4.7 million) in its opening weekend to push The Hunger Games: Catching Fire to second place with takings of $4 million (£2.7 million).

Sandra Bullock's space drama Gravity fell from second to third place, earning $1.7 million (£1.1 million), while Disney's Saving Mr. Banks, the story of how Mary Poppins was adapted for cinema, held on to the number four spot with $821,812 (£547,881).

Sylvester Stallone's Homefront, starring Jason Statham and James Franco, rounded out the top five by taking $660,459 (£440,306) during its first weekend in British cinemas.
