The Egyptian-born star passed away at his home in Nice, France on Thursday (23May13), a spokesperson for his production house has confirmed.
Moustaki was a prolific composer with more than 300 songs under his belt, including Edith Piaf's 1958 hit Milord, which Cher covered in 1966.
French stars Yves Montand, Juliette Greco and Pia Colombo also performed his songs.
A memorial ceremony is scheduled to take place on Monday (27May13) in Paris' famed Pere Lachaise Cemetery.
