Dean Martin - Frank Sinatra Gave Dean Martin's Daughter Singing Lessons

As a little girl, Deana Martin dreamed of following in her father's footsteps, so she approached the Memories Are Made of This hitmaker about hiring a vocal coach.

She tells the New York Post, "I asked my father if I should take singing lessons. He said, 'No, not unless you want to sound like everybody else in the choir.'"

Determined Deana, now 63, then turned to her father's longtime pal Sinatra for help - and the musician admits she will never forget their sessions together.

She adds, "He told me it was all about the breath. He said, 'I can tell even before a note comes out if I'm going to be on pitch or not.' I asked him, 'Does my dad do that?' and he said, 'No, your father has no idea what he's doing. He just does it.'"

But, although Dean refused to give his daughter proper lessons, he did support her every step of the way: "He was not critical or judgemental... If something wasn't good he'd say, 'Try it again,' or 'Maybe it's not the best thing to do.' His lessons were, 'Surround yourself with the best musicians... know all the lyrics... be on time... sing from the heart.'"
