Frank Ocean - Frank Ocean Encourages Jamie Foxx's Friends To Come Out?
Frank Ocean 's recent admission that his first love was a man has gone a long way towards changing the stigma surrounding homosexual and bisexual artists in the rap and hip-hop genres. Ocean has received strong support from the likes of 50 Cent, Beyonce and now, the singer and Hollywood star Jamie Foxx.
Speaking at the Comic Con event in San Diego this week, Foxx - who is promoting 'Django Unchained' - lent his support to Ocean, saying, "Elton John did it. For Frank Ocean to do it and be hip-hop and black, he's breaking ground, and kudos to him. At the end of the day, his music is for everybody", joking, "Now when I put his music on, I am trying to get at the ladies. Frank, you helping me out. You done left more for me, Frank". Ever the entertainer, Foxx then proceeded to break into song - performing an impromptu rendition of Ocean's song 'Swim Good' from his 2011 mixtape 'Nostalgia, Ultra'. The singer came out over his sexuality in a letter posted on his Tumblr page, leading to huge interest in the singer, and strong sales of his latest album 'Channel Orange'. The album is likely to debut at No.2 on the Billboard 200 chart, though Foxx suggests Ocean's admission will affect far more than just the charts, saying, "When I heard that he came out, I thought, 'Courageous, hooray for him' It's just the beginning. I have several friends who live in darkness and live in fear, and it's just time".
Foxx plays a slave set on revenge in Quentin Tarantino's forthcoming movie 'Django Unchained' - set for release on Christmas Day 2012.
