Fox Looks For Laughs With Comedy Driven Fall Schedule
Fox has attempted to sure up its position as the leading primetime network by adding one drama and two new comedies to its Fall line-up. In an interesting move, bosses are also moving 'Glee' to Thursday night's, while making Tuesday evening their new "sitcom night".
Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly also spoke of making changes to underperforming shows such as American Idol, saying that it "remains Fox's centerpiece, as it has been for the past decade", but adding, "the show has lost a startling quarter of its audience this season.This year was a bigger drop-off than we anticipated". Reilly said comedy-drama 'Glee' was ready for a "creative renaissance", and with Kate Hudson and Sarah Jessica Parker signed up for limited runs on the forthcoming season, few would disagree. The new sitcom night on Tuesday's, will see two new comedies join 'New Girl', with Zooey Deschanel and 'Raising Hope'. 'The Mindy Project' is a romantic comedy about a doctor looking for love, while 'Ben and Kate' is about a pair of odd siblings. A new drama titled 'The Mob Doctor' will begin on Monday's, following the story of a young GP who has to pay off her family's lifelong debt to an infamous Chicago mob.
As has already been reported, Fox's long-running drama 'House' will end its run this spring, while high profile dramas such as 'Terra Nova' and 'Alcatraz' have been axed.
