Jodie Foster - Foster's Dad Gets Five Years In Jail
Jodie Foster's estranged father has been ordered to serve five years in jail following his conviction for running a property scam.
On Wednesday (07Dec11), Julius Foster was found guilty on 30 counts of grand theft and operating without a contractor's licence. He had allegedly offered to build 20 homes and took deposits from prospective buyers in the San Fernando Valley area of California, before pocketing the cash when the construction work fell through.
He was due to be sentenced on Thursday (08Dec11), but the 89 year old failed to show up after reportedly missing a bus and sentencing was postponed until Friday (09Dec11).
Van Nuys Superior Court Judge Gregory A. Dohi punished Foster with five years behind bars and ordered him to be taken into custody immediately.
Foster, who had faced a maximum of 25 years in jail, had maintained his innocence throughout the trial, insisting he had always vowed to follow through with the construction plans.
A restitution hearing has now been set for 23 February (12).
