A host of Formula One memorabilia and a Pablo Picasso print were among items auctioned to raise more than $2.6 million (GBP1.3 million) for a cancer charity. Pop stars Lemar, Ronan Keating, Beverley Knight and Mica Paris all performed at the La Dolce Vita Grand Prix Ball at London's Royal Albert Hall on Friday (07Jul07) - marking the start of the British Grand Prix weekend. At a spectacular auction to raise money for CLIC Sargent a two rival bidders pledged GBP200,000 each for a Picasso print and then put the painting back up for sale - with it eventually raising $970,000 (GBP485,000). The total funds raised for the charity now tops $10 million (GBP5 million). Former Formula One boss Eddie Jordan, a patron of the cancer charity, made an appearance - and thanked bidders for their generosity: "I'm proud to be part of this worthy cause and delighted that we have managed to support the work of CLIC Sargent. "We promised that a centre would be opened in London to support those families touched by cancer and we are absolutely thrilled that our dream can now become a reality."
