Former James Bond Actor Slams Heineken Swilling 00723 May 2012
GEORGE LAZENBY, who played James Bond in the movie 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' in 1969, has slammed the new Bond movie filmmakers' decision to axe the traditional 007 drink of choice vodka martini in favour of Heineken.
The decision came about after being approached by Heineken and signing a $45 million deal with the Dutch beer company which obliges current Bond star, Daniel Craig, to drink the stuff instead of martinis in his new movie 'Skyfall'. Lazenby told TMZ.com that the change breaks an important tradition and the Heineken is 'not the best beer out there, either.' He goes on to express his sadness that filmmakers nowadays 'always go where the money is.'
Despite Lazenby's indignation, Craig stands up for the decision realising that these kinds of sponsorship deals are the main source of funding for the movies. "This movie costs a lot of money to make", he told the Huffington Post, "he simple fact is that, without them, we couldn't do it. It's unfortunate but that's how it is.' He insists that Bond drinking a beer isn't a bad thing; there may be uproar about it but he promises that this is not what the film is about.
