During a typical week of pre-Christmas reruns, the broadcast networks last week saw a huge drop in viewers, save for the football telecasts. Some 19.04 million viewers tuned for NBC's telecast of the Dallas-Washington Sunday Night Football Contest -- far and away the top-rated telecast of the week. Nevertheless, CBS once again dominated the ratings, winning all of the other top-ten positions with the exception of NBC's pre-kickoff show. It averaged a 7.3 rating and a 12 share. ABC took second place with a 5.9/10. Fox followed with a 5.2/8, and NBC, despite the big football numbers and solid ratings for the second (and final) week of The Sing Off , could do no better than a 4.9/8. The evening newscasts drew solid numbers with NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams holding on to the lead with an average of 9.37 million viewers. Diane Sawyer quietly took over the anchor's desk at ABC's World News and attracted 8.56 million viewers. The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric again trailed with 6.2 million viewers. There was also little change in the ratings for the morning talk shows, with NBC's Today averaging 6 million viewers while George Stephanopoulos debuted on Good Morning America with 4.6 million.
