Fool's Gold Tops Us Box Office

Matthew Mcconaughey's new movie Fool's Good has debuted at the top of the US box office charts after a lucrative opening weekend.

The treasure hunt caper, also starring Kate Hudson, Ray Winstone and Donald Sutherland, earned over $22 million (£11.2 million) to push last week's number one movie - Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour - into third place.

McConaughey and Hudson star as Benjamin and Tess Finegan, a divorcing couple whose romance is reignited by the discovery of a lost treasure trove.

Martin Lawrence's new comedy Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins - about a chat host returning to the Deep South to visit his family - entered the chart in second spot, with $17.1 million (£8.7 million) in box office takings.

Last week's number two, horror movie The Eye, fell to fourth, while Juno's awards season success saw it climb one place to fifth in its tenth week on release.

Romantic comedy 27 Dresses fell three places to sixth, while Jack Nicholson/Morgan Freeman vehicle The Bucket List stays in seventh.

Rambo and Meet the Spartans dropped to eighth and ninth respectively. Oscar favourite There Will Be Blood took just over $4 million (£2 million) to remain in tenth.
