Flowers Impressed, Flattered And Puzzled By Wainwright Tribute

THE KILLERS star BRANDON FLOWERS is both baffled and impressed by gay singer/songwriter RUFUS WAINWRIGHT's romantic ode to him - because it was composed after a brief late-night encounter.
Wainwright's Tulsa is all about the Human singer, and Flowers is flattered to be the subject of a song - if a little confused.
Flowers says, "We were both playing the same night in Tulsa, and after our shows we ended up in the same bar. We hung out for an hour and a half, tops, and I'm so impressed with how he turned that into a song.
"He does compare me to Marlon Brando in there. I'll take that all day."
But there's one line in the tune Flowers doesn't understand, when Wainwright suggests The Killers frontman "tastes of potato chips in the morning".
He adds, "(That's) wishful thinking. I don't know why, in his imagination, he'd pick potato chips."

Experience Sun, Sand And Sensational Sounds At Hangout Festival 2014 4198606 News

Alabama's sun-soaked, sold-out Hangout Music Fest begins officially today (May 16th 2014) following yesterday's kick-off party - and there's almost too much fun to take in.

Set against the glorious backdrop of Gulf Shores' pure white beaches, this festival truly is the place to 'hang out' this weekend with top headliners The Black Keys, The Killers, Outkast and Jack Johnson leading the talent-studded bill. Acts such as Jack Antonoff's latest project Bleachers, CLASSIXX and Bonobo's DJ set went down a storm at the Discover Great Thursday Kickoff Party, but don't worry if you missed it because things are getting even better over the rest of the weekend.

Kicking off the Friday schedule is The Black Keys over on the Hangout Stage, who have just unveiled their eighth album 'Turn Blue' so festival goers will no doubt be getting a taste of that. Queens of the Stone Age follow on the Chevrolet Stage and, just to get your feet moving around the venue because there are six awesome stages to check out, Nashville five-piece Wild Cub will be entertaining on the BMI Stage. Some entertainment from across the pond soon follows in the form of UK rockers The 1975, whose popularity has sky-rocketed since they burst onto the scene last year with their debut self-titled album.

Rock out with The Killers on Saturday morning

Saturday probably holds the most excitement, but now it gets a little bit difficult to juggle. The Killers and Pretty Lights clash as they begin the day on the Hangout Stage and in the Boom Boom Tent respectively; so you've got a choice to dance the morning away or rock out for a bit. There's quite a mix in the afternoon with psychedelic rock from The Flaming Lips, infectious tunes from Fitz and the Tantrums and off-the-scale hip hop from Chance The Rapper, and later indie duo Wild Belle and electronic artist Robert DeLong will feature on the BMI and Boom Boom.

The Hangout Stage and Chevrolet are really the places to be on Sunday, with Outkast continuing their festival circuit with their opening set on the former stage and Jack Johnson providing some chilled out vibes on the latter. Chevrolet plays host to Bastille later on, while Hangout sees The Avett Brothers and Capital Cities. If anywhere else needs an audience on the Sunday, Tom Odell will be over on the Palladia Stage with his brand of UK pop.

Hangout begins very soon so get yourselves down there now. Ticket holders will no doubt have an amazing time dancing in the sun and experiencing some of the best international artists pop has to offer.

Outside Lands Brings You The 2014 Line-Up! Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers, Duck Sauce, Jagwar Ma And More 4151425 News

Outside Lands 2014 festival logo

Possibly the only major festival where you can enjoy fine gourmet cuisine while rocking out to an eclectic variety of international artists, Outside Lands has now unveiled the 2014 line-up as it prepares to return to San Francisco this August.

We just can't express our excitement enough at the newly revealed line-up for Outside Lands this year. Topping the bill are the likes of Kanye West, The Killers and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers; three very different artists which see the latter become the first act ever to headline twice following their incredible set in 2013. Now in its seventh year, Outside Lands are showing signs of development every single summer, and at much benefit for the city with a percentage of every ticket sale going to San Francisco's Recreation and Park Department.

Further megastars to make themselves heard at the Golden Gate Park over the August 8th - 10th weekend include Arctic Monkeys, The Flaming Lips and Haim alongside Macklemore & Ryan Lewis who make a return appearance having previous played the festival as emerging artists. Then there are the indie bands that will be attracting the passionate music lovers such as LA's Local Natives, Brooklyn-based Phosphorescent and Warpaint - also from LA.

It's not all about the rock music though; the ever diverse event will also play host to electronic acts such as Tiesto, Disclosure, SBTRKT, Holy Ghost! and Duck Sauce if you fancy getting your dancing shoes on. Of course, we are especially excited to see several newcomers at Outside Lands this year: LA pop duo Capital Cities, Scottish electronic three-piece Chvrches, psychedelic Aussies Jagwar Ma and Melbourne rock chick Courtney Barnett.

With a line-up like that, it's no wonder Outside Lands has been a sell-out success for three years in a row and we can't see that changing any time soon. Of course, plenty of credit goes to the artists who make it such a thrill ride, but it's not an opportunity to be missed for food lovers either. Across the venue will be a variety of Californian cuisine with particular emphasis on cheese, beer and plenty of chicken. It's truly not worth missing.

Tickets are on sale now at $275 for a general admission three day pass and $595 for a VIP ticket.

It's Indie Rock & Roll For V Festival: The Killers Headline Huge Bill 4096855 News

The UK’s festival season is slowly clicking into gear as Hollywood’s award season recovers from a stinking hangover. On the weekend of August 16-17 in Hylands Park, Chelmsford and Weston Park, Staffordshire, The Killers will preside the headline slot alongside Justin Timberlake.

"We're very excited to announce the V Festival line-up, and proud to bring headliners Justin Timberlake and The Killers, following on from their sold out Wembley Stadium show in 2013, with both headliners summer festival exclusives,” V Festival Directors Bob Angus, Simon Moran and Dennis Desmond said in a statement.

“We have pulled together a line-up of huge depth with a variety of artists across many musical genres and 2014 is set to be another fantastic year in V Festival's 19 year history." Alongside those two A-lister headliners, V has a stellar line up, including: Lily Allen, Blondie, Chic featuring Nile Rodgers, Elbow, Bastille, Rudimental, Chase & Status, Kaiser Chiefs, Manic Street Preachers, Katy B, Miles Kane, The Wailers and The Stranglers.

Ed Sheeran, Paolo Nutini, Example, Tom Odell, Sub Focus, Rizzle Kicks, John Newman, Sam Smith, Embrace, Janelle Monae, Kodaline, The Human League, Starsailor, The Strypes, Birdy, Foxes, Ella Eyre, The Stranglers, The Magic Numbers, Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbot, George Ezra, M People, All Saints, The Wonder Stuff and The Rifles will also perform.

The First V Festival kicked off in 1996, with Pulp, Paul Weller and Supergrass leading an impressive bill. Since then, the festival has championed indie, rock and pop with a consistently competitive line up, despite increased competition in the marketplace with Glastonbury and Bestival proving immensely popular over the last decade. Tickets for V 2014 go on sale Friday March 7 at 9.00am from www.VFestival.com.

Robbie Williams Keeps Gary Barlow Off The Top Spot On UK Album Chart 4008123 News

It was like 1997 all over again this weekend, as Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow battled it out for the Number One spot on the UK Album Chart. Much like the battles of the mid-to-late nineties, it was Robbie who came out on top again, making him the last artist to top the album chart in 2013.

Robbie WilliamsGary Barlow
The Take That guys were fighting for the top spot yet again

Robbie's new big band album, Swing Both Ways, held on to the No. 1 spot for a second week, having emerged victorious from another closely fought contest from last week. It was One Direction who Robbie managed to beat to the No. 1 spot last week, with his latest album beating Midnight Memories to the top spot by just 200 copies. This time around it was a relatively more clear contest, with Swing Both Ways outselling Gary Barlow’s latest solo effort, Since I Saw You Last, by approximately 12,000 copies.

According to OfficialCharts.com, Swing Both Ways sold close to 91,000 copies in the last seven days, compared to the 79,000 shifted by Since I Saw You Last. The recent spate of sales also marks a return to the chart for both albums, which were both initially released in November and managed to perform well in the charts then too. Although Barlow's album sold more copies that Robbie when it was released on 22 November (a week after Swing Both Ways' initial release), it stalled at No. 2 behind the latest 1D album and although he has enjoyed strong sales since then, the album still hasn't made it to the top of the charts. When it originally charted, Swing Both Ways also became the 1000th Number One UK album.

The rest of the top ten saw One Direction, Beyoncé and Olly Murs make up the top five, with their albums Midnight Memories, Beyoncé and Right Place Right Time placing at No.s 3, 4 and 5 respectively. The rest of the top ten comprised of Ellie Goulding at No. 6 with her album Halcyon, The Marshall Mathers LP 2 by Eminem was at 7 and Michael Bublé took up the 8th and 9th spots on the chart with Christmas and To Be Loved. Direct Hits, the greatest hits compilation by The Killers, finished the top ten.

Brandon Flowers Removes Wedding Ring After Theft At Gig 3974617 News

The Killers rocker Brandon Flowers removes his jewellery before mingling with fans at gigs after a bracelet was stolen from his wrist during a concert in the U.K.

The Mr. Brightside hitmakers were performing a show in Newcastle, England when frontman Flowers decided to head out on one of his trademark walkabouts among the audience.

He was upset when he returned to the stage and realised a chain was missing from his arm - so now he always removes his wedding ring and other valuables before shaking hands at gigs.

Flowers tells Q magazine, "I've lost a bracelet or two. I won't say in which town. I don't want to get into trouble... Ok, it was Newcastle. I don't wanna lose my wedding ring! I put them back on after the gig."

The Killers - Shot At The Night Single Review 3954945 Reviews

It's no secret that The Killers have changed their sound dramatically since the seminal days of 'Mr. Brightside' a decade ago, and now you have the chance to hear that transformation (in an appropriately chronological order) before your very. ermm. ears, with the release of their new compilation album 'Direct Hits'.

In the run-up to the album release, they unveiled a brand new track entitled 'Shot At The Night' which serves as one of two never-before-released songs on the tracklist. The question is, does this new brand of mature, synth-infused power pop work for the formerly very indie rockers?

Produced by M83's Anthony Gonzalez, 'Shot At The Night' is naturally a synth-laden epic with plucky guitars and soaring vocal echoes. On opening, there's a strong reminder of how much has changed for the band over the years - and especially since releasing fourth album 'Battle Born' last year following their two year hiatus. The vibe generally seems to be a lot more serious than previous material and 'Shot At The Night' is no exception; they maintain their characteristic build-up from beginning to end, starting out quiet with a sense of melancholic desperation and ending with a strong, dynamic climax. It's what makes The Killers so anthemic and enjoyable to listen to but this time, coupled with generic subject matter and boring lyrics, it doesn't feel as aurally interesting. On the other hand, the chorus is super catchy, though I can't help feeling like they are sort of turning into 'boyband' material. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's not something you'd expect.

The Killers really did used to be the 'Killers' of the pop charts, with their strong rock elements, often humorous lyrics and Brandon Flowers' unique, gritty vocals - but it's easy to think that they may have grown up a bit too much of late. As for whether or not this new sound works for them, I would say it does - if you like pleasant synth tones and powerful choruses, this is a great track. But if you don't, 'Shot At The Night' isn't going to change your mind.

Life Is Beautiful Festival 2013 brings top artists of all walks of life to Downtown Las Vegas this weekend for two days of cracking music, scrumptious gourmet food and breath-taking art.

This brand new festival opens for the first time this year from October 26th - 27th and will certainly be marked as a highlight for festival lovers this autumn. Headlining the event are The Killers, who will hit the Downtown Stage on the Sunday, and Kings Of Leon who will perform likewise on the Saturday. Californian singer Beck will also be making an appearance alongside Vampire Weekend, who topped the US chart with their album 'Modern Vampires of the City' earlier this year, and Imagine Dragons who are returning home to play some of their platinum hits to the neighbours.

American sister trio Haim have earned great success in the UK but that doesn't mean they don't still have a major fanbase back home - we're expecting a warm reception on their appearance on the Huntridge Stage on Sunday. Charli XCX's biggest success might be Icona Pop's hit single 'I Love It' on which she featured, but her solo tunes are sure to pull in an appreciative crowd to the Ambassdor Stage.

It's not all about the music, however; as part of the food festival there'll be chefs on stage, booze tasting sessions and not to mention the 3-hour Culinary Crawls. There will also be incredible theatrics, acrobatics, dancing and a massive range of artwork as part of the art festival and there'll be various learning opportunities for both children and adults.

Get general admission tickets now for $159.50 (if you can make it in time, that is) or $95 for single days. VIP tickets are also still around at $349.50 apiece or $209.50 for one day.

The Killers guitarist sick of tours 3899190 News

The Killers' Dave Keuning is ''sick'' of touring.

The 'Somebody Told Me' hitmakers have been wrapping up their live commitments for latest album 'Battle Born' in China recently, but their guitarist's enthusiasm has been waning.

He said: ''I'm sick of this. I'm done. The end is in sight. Some people may go, 'Why are you complaining?' But you haven't done what I've done, so you can't relate. We've just ... toured a s**tload.''

Bass player Mark Stoermer has suffered worse, having to leave the tour after being struck with a back injury.

Drummer Ronnie Vannucii explained: ''His back is totally f***ed. I've spoken with him about it, I don't know how much he wants out in the open ... I don't want to blow the top on it. But look, being part of this machine is physically and mentally exhausting.''

The band are set to take a year hiatus after completing the tour, but frontman Brandon Flowers is to keep writing, working on material for his second solo album.

He added to NME magazine: ''I'm looking forward to having a normal year. But I'm going to write. I'm just going to put my heart and soul into my solo record. I'm going to be filing those diamonds, it's my job.''

When asked about Mark's condition, he added: ''I hear different stories all the time. He's tired ... something physical, something mental. I can't force him to come here. But it's fine, we're getting through.''

The Killers Are Back With 'A Shot At The Night' In Sin City [Video] 3886099 News

'Shot At The Night' marks The Killers return ahead of the release of their upcoming singles compilation album, Direct Hits, that will include all their hits from 2003 to 2013. The Las Vegas rockers are heading home for their latest song, with a video that celebrates the romance and thrill of night time in Sin City with a modern Cinderella story.

Brandon Flowers

During the video, we're given shots of Brandon Flowers' new look. Gone are the flamboyant suits, wee moustache and the embellished shoulders as the lead singer eschews his Day & Age attire in favour of slicked back hair and a leather jacket.

Dark Shadows' Bella Heathcote plays a hotel maid going through the motions of drudgery as she makes beds, vacs the floor, and changes the ice in champagne buckets. No sooner has she fed her cat and crashed into bed, she has to start her shift all over again. However, on her way to work, she's so distracted by the Vegas strip happenings that she almost runs over an attractive stranger. She smiles shyly and it's clear we haven't seen the last of Max Minghell (The Ides of March).

As luck would have it, the man is staying in Bella's hotel and he and his friends persuade the bashful maid to ditch her cleaning duties and join them for an evening she'll never forget. The pair frolic, dance, gamble, go for a scooter ride and kiss before the carriage turns back into a pumpkin and the sun comes up.

The song is pure Killers radio chemistry with Flowers' distinctive echoing vocals over 1980s synth swoops, some sharp guitar work and the heartbeat effect of a bare drumkit. Lyrically, the song is evocative of 'When You Were Young' as Brandon takes on a persona hungry for excitement and a glimpse of a life less ordinary. "Throw me a lifeline/'cause honey I got nothing to lose" Flowers sings longingly before the addictive chorus cries of "Give me a shot at the night."
