Florence Welch - Florence Welch Bounces Back From Illness For U.s. Tv Performance

British singer Florence Welch returned to the stage with her band Florence + The Machine for a live U.S. TV performance on Wednesday (18Jul12), a week after sustaining a vocal injury.
The Dog Days Are Over hitmakers were forced to scrap two European festival dates last week (ends13Jul12) after frontwoman Welch lost her voice, but she has since undergone medical treatment and bounced back from illness to honour a commitment for breakfast show Good Morning America.
The stars performed their first ever U.K. number one, new single Spectrum (Say My Name), and Shake It Out, and Welch admits she was nervous she wouldn't be able to hit the high notes.
She said, "I was worried because I was like, 'Am I just gonna open my mouth and it's just gonna (be silent)?' But it seems to still work, it's still there!"
Explaining how she sustained the injury, she added, "I was singing and it's never really happened to me before and I felt something, I actually felt it, I lost about three octaves and I had to sing really low just trying to get through the show, but that was an interesting experiment in itself.
"But it's funny, it's not like being sick because it's almost like being an athlete, you strain a muscle, and I just couldn't really speak and I was desperate to do the (festival) shows, I really wanted to still do them, but I could have done permanent damage so I had to rest."
Welch is glad her voice problems have been resolved in time for the band's North American tour: "That's why it was so important to get the rest so that we could do this tour and do it in the best health."
Florence + The MAChine kick off their trek in British Columbia, Canada on Friday (20Jul12).
