Florence + The Machine Score First U.k. Number One Single
15 July 2012The band was forced to pull out of two European festival dates this week (begs09Jul12) after frontwoman Florence Welch was silenced with a vocal injury, but the stars now have something to smile about after Spectrum (Say My Name) debuted atop the new singles countdown.
An excited Welch took to her Twitter.com blog on Sunday (15Jul12) to thank fans for their support, writing, "Woooooooo! We did it! No 1!!!! ...Really couldn't have done this without you Flows (fans)... SpectrumNumberOne".
Last week's (08Jul12) chart-topper, Payphone by Maroon 5, slips to second place while rapper will.i.am sits at three with This Is Love.
Meanwhile, British singer Newton Faulkner's new release, Write It On Your Skin, has shot to the top the U.K. albums chart, edging out R&B singer Frank Ocean, whose debut solo disc Channel Orange enters at two.
