The Flaming Lips have smashed Jay-Z's record for the most concerts performed in multiple cities in 24 hours.
The Wayne Coyne-fronted group set a new Guinness World Record after holding eight gigs in eight different cities across the Mississippi Delta as part of the 2012 O Music Awards in 24 hours.
Travelling to each gig by bus, the alternative rockers beat Jay's record after he travelled to seven cities, but he used a private jet.
Van Toffler, Music and Logo president, is quoted by The Hollywood Reporter as saying: ''Achieving this record-breaking musical Journey has been exhausting and exhilarating at the same time.
''Wayne, the Lips, all the musicians and fans that greeted us along the Delta and a sweaty tired crew made for some choice moments on this trek. Now it's time for all of us to take a long hot shower.''
The Family Lips began their tour in Memphis, Tennesse and finished in Louisiana on Thursday (28.06.12).
