Five Shows Comprise Tv's Top Ten
The top ten broadcast TV shows last week were actually five, given the fact that all of them, with the exception of ABC's Modern Family placed at least two episodes on the list. The season finale of Fox's American Idol -- the results show in which Phillip Phillips was crowned the winner -- was the No. 1 show for the week, but with 21.5 million viewers, it was the lowest-rated finale in the history of the long-running talent contest. Tuesday's final performance episode of Idol ranked fourth with 14.8 million viewers. Three episodes of ABC's Dancing With The Stars landed among the top ten, with Tuesday's results show taking second place with 17.8 million viewers. Modern Family came in at No. 5 with 10.1 million, edging out back-to-back episodes of CBS's NCIS and performance and results episodes of NBC's America's Got Talent. Among the evening newscasts, the gap between NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams and ABC World News with Diane Sawyer continued to narrow, with the Williams newscast drawing 7.7 million viewers and the Sawyer newscast 7.2 million. The CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley retreated a bit with 5.4 million. Once again CBS led the pack overall for the week with an average 6.4 household rating and an 11 share; ABC was second with a 4.6/8; Fox was close behind with a 4.2/7; while NBC trailed with a 3.5/6.
