First Look At Meryl Streep's Margaret Thatcher
The movie, written by Abi Morgan, will be narrated through a series of flashbacks including the 17 days leading up the Falklands War in 1982. Streep is joined in the cast by Jim Broadbent, who plays her husband Denis, and Michael Pennington, who plays Labour leader Michael Foot. The new teaser trailer features Thatcher's aides suggesting ways in which to improve her image. "That hat has got to go, and the pearls, but the main thing is your voice.it's too high and it has no authority", says one adviser, before the Iron Lady replies, "I may be persuaded to surrender the hat, the pearls however, are absolutely non-negotiable - that's the tone that we want to strike". There were early concerns with the idea of an American playing the role of Thatcher, but the trailer appears to reinforce most critics' expectation that Streep will be a success in the role. The movie, which is being distributed by the Weinstein Company in the hope of Oscar success, will be released in January 2012.
Meanwhile, Meryl Streep will begin work on the comedy-drama 'Great Hope Springs', with Steve Carell and TOMMY LEE JONES.
