Fiona Apple - Fiona Apple Arrested For Marijuana Possession On Mexico Border

We're looking forward to seeing what long-winded song title Fiona Apple comes up with when she gets around to writing a song about this one. That's right, the singer songwriter who once held the dubious honour of writing the world's longest album title, was reportedly arrested on the Mexico border after being found to have marijuana on her persons.

Apple certainly isn't the first music star to be stopped on the border and found to have the green stuff on her. Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg and Armie Hammer are three of the not-so surprising names to have found themselves in trouble with the law for possessing the banned substance. Apple was found to have hash on her as well as a small amount of weed and as such the 35 year-old is being held at Hudspeth County Jail.

It hopefully won't derail what's been a fairly promising comeback from Apple, who released her first album in seven years this year, giving it the typically long-winded title The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do. The album went to number three on the US Billboard Charts, although it hasn't got anywhere near sales of her phenomenally received debut album Tidal. Released in 1996, that sold some 2.7 million in the US.

Frank Ocean Tells Chipotle To "F- Off" In Lawsuit Over Scarecrow Advert Song 4105467 News

Frank Ocean has sent off a cheque ending a legal spat with burrito giant Chipotle after a dispute over the soundtrack song for the company's Scarecrow advert last year. The R&B singer eschewed discreteness over sharing the cheque with his fans via Tumblr. The cheque was made out to an unknown company for $212,500 but had "F**k Off" scrawled in the 'memo' section.

The pop star also posted a link to the Wikipedia article for 'Defamation' alongside the cheque image. The money, which is assumed to have been made out to Chipotle, was refunding the advance the company paid for Ocean to sing a cover of 'Pure Imagination' for their emotive 2013 commercial.

In the recently filed lawsuit, the company claimed that Ocean refused to record the track because the Chipotle advert featured Chipotle's logo at the end. Believing that Chipotle was in breach when it refused to remove its logo, Frank's people emailed the company saying that the singer was promised final say over the recording and had the right to all subsequent promotional materials tied to the campaign, according to TMZ.

Chipotle decided to run the ad regardless and hired Fiona Apple to sing a haunting and highly effective cover of the song made famous by the original 1971 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory movie.

The advert, which launched in September last year, criticises factory farming methods and promotes Chipotle's allegedly more sustainable methods of meat production. The three minute-long commercial encourages viewers to seek out a companion app-based game related to the scenes and characters presented in the video.

Hot Knife: When Fiona Apple Reunited With 'The Master' Paul Thomas Anderson 3779318 News

Fiona Apple's new video for 'Hot Knife' is a strange affair. It's visually stunning, with split-screens and black and white filters. There's even an appearance from Apple's sister Apple Maude Maggart, who provides vocals on the track.

And then you find out it's directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, and everything falls into place. The director of There Will be Blood, Boogie Nights and The Master, is actually the ex-boyfriend of the singer-songwriter, which.makes things a little weird, but still.

According to an interview with V Magazine, the video has taken over a year to create, with Anderson having to leave midway through to begin work on a movie.

You may recall Apple's previous collaborations with Anderson - deemed to be one of the most progressive filmmakers on the planet - on 'Paper Bag' and 'Limp.'

Emotional Fiona Apple Cancels South American Tour Because Of Ailing Pet 3384479 News

As you might expect from an artist who has an album in her back catalogue called When the pawn hits the conflicts he thinks like a king, What he knows throws the blows when he goes to the fight, And he'll win the whole thing 'fore he enters the ring, There's no body to batter when your mind is your might, So when you go solo, you hold your own hand, And remember that depth is the greatest of heights, And if you know where you stand, then you know where to land, And if you fall it won't matter, cuz you'll know that you're right, Fiona Apple is one to mince her words when it gets around to telling people anything.

The performer has had to cancel her upcoming South American tour because her 13 year-old pit-bull mix Janet is ill and, sadly, appears to be on the way out. In the press surrounding her latest album The Idler Wheel, Apple had spoken a lot about the pet whom she’d rescued as a stray and so it’s no surprise that she’s quite cut up about the situation. You can find out just how cut up she is though in a hugely long letter that she posted to her official Facebook page yesterday (November 20) explaining that Janet had a tumour and as such she’d be staying at home with her rather than playing shows to her Latin American faithful.

Apple had initially hand written the letter – there are pictures of it on Facebook – but she also typed out the piece, which finishes with the incredibly intense words “I know that I will feel the most overwhelming knowledge of her, and of her life and of my love for her, in the last moments. I need to do my damnedest to be there for that. Because it will be the most beautiful, the most intense, the most enriching experience of life I've ever known. When she dies.” There were no words in the essay as to whether the dates would be rescheduled.

Fiona Apple Tour Delayed So Singer Can Be With Her Dying Dog 3383218 News

Singer songwriter Fiona Apple's tour will be delayed as she tends to her dying dog, the singer has put her pet before her fans, but we're sure her fans will understand. The singer writes in a handwritten letter posted to her Facebook profile: "Janet has been the most consistent relationship of my adult life, and that is just a fact."

Apple goes on: "She has Addison's Disease, which makes it dangerous for her to travel since she needs regular injections of Cortisol, because she reacts to stress and to excitement without the physiological tools which keep most of us from literally panicking to death. Despite all of this, she's effortlessly joyful and playful, and only stopped acting like a puppy about 3 years ago." The letter continues to say the "decision is instant" to stay with her friend rather than go on tour, while she explaines, "I just can't leave her now, please understand. If I go away again, I'm afraid she'll die and I won't have the honor of singing her to sleep, of escorting her out."

Apple made the news recently, when she was arrested for hashish possession on Wednesday at a West Texas town after a Border Patrol drug-sniffing dog detected marijuana in her tour bus.

Fiona Apple - The Idler Wheel... Album Review 3353515 Reviews

Fiona Apple's first album in 7 years is a bare-boned howl of a record; the sound of an artist working and experimenting completely on her own terms and the result is a record that oozes with exhilarating honesty.

Opting to change producer from longtime artistic partner Jon Brion, whose work with Apple impressed another defiantly singular artist, one Kanye West, so much that he worked with Brion on 'Late Registration', Apple produced the album with tour drummer Charley Drayton. As a result, the album's sonic landscape is a cacophony of clattering drums, dark-jazz pianos over which Apple's voice soars, howls and whispers, often all in the same song.

One feels like this working relationship with Drayton gives Apple a freedom to fully express herself, and the percussive musical landscape is a perfect fit with her lyrical honesty that deals with love, pain and themes of mental unrest.

The album opens with first single, Every Single Night, the beginning of which is somewhat deceptive; xylophones chime as Fiona sings of 'little wings of white-flamed butterflies in my brain', painting a pleasingly whimsical picture just before things turn sour as these feelings start to 'trickle down my spine to where the pain comes in'. Before we know it she is howling the song's chorus 'Every single night's a fight in my brain', turning that last word into its own melodic line, bellowing the line as a defiant f***-you to those nights.

The dynamics on this track is symptomatic of the whole album, which uses the old loud/quiet/loud to great effect, yet the album is never easy to read and, just as you feel you've got a song pegged, it'll head off in a completely direction. Every Single Night ends with the eccentrically delivered line; 'I just want to feel everything', and in some ways within this lies the key to the album - the diversity and visceral nature of the emotions contained here shows us that she has felt it all, and this is her translation of it, and it's our turn to 'feel everything'.

Her lyrical style lends itself to this idea of 'feeling' emotion, opting for imagery over straightforwardly confessional lyrics - lines such as 'I looked like a neon zebra, shaking rain off my stripes' on highlight 'Anything We Want' mean to create an image rather than have specific meaning. She excels at these types of evocative images, the best perhaps being the bile-fuelled line 'I ran out of white dove feathers to soak up the hot piss that comes through your mouth, every time you address me', which really doesn't need any kind of explanation in order to understand it.

Many of the songs, such as Jonathan or the superb Valentine, sound as if Apple has taken a straightforwardly melodic track, decided the current form is too MOR, so gone into the studio to deconstruct and bastardise it, adding discord and tension to the track. This is not to say that the record is willfully difficult to listen to - rather that Apple has cloaked the catchy and very melodic nature of the songs, meaning that the album only truly reveals itself after it's been lived with for a while.

It isn't often these days that one feels challenged by a singer-songwriter album, but Fiona Apple has made a record that is both challenging as well as easy to love, all because of its musical and emotional honesty - one feels this is exactly the record she intended to make, and it stands as one of the year's best.

Busted In Sierra Blanca: Nelly Held By Police, Heroin Found In His Tour Bus 3323276 News

Rapper Nelly escaped the long arm of the law after a police raid of his tour bus allegedly found heroin, weed and a loaded gun on board, TMZ report.

According to Texas law enforcement sources, Nelly's bus was stopped at a border patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca last night (October 11, 2012), where a police canine detected the presence of drugs. When the officers inspected the bus, they not only found a massive stash of weed, said to weigh around 10 lbs., but also came across a 36 small bags of heroin (totalling .64 ounces) and a loaded pistol.

Nelly and six other people were all detained after the search, but six of them – including the rapper – were allowed to go after one of the passenger, named Brian Keith Jones, admitted that the whole stash and the gun belonged to him. He was subsequently detained by the police is expected to still be in their custody. So far, Nelly’s PR team have not made any comment on the situation, despite being contacted a number of times since the news broke.

This makes Nelly the latest in a long line of celebs who have been busted at the same checkpoint, including Willie Nelson, Armie Hammer, Snoop Dogg, and Fiona Apple.

Drugs And Loaded Gun Seized: Nelly’s Tour Bus Raided In Sierra Blanca 3322659 News

Nelly’s tour bus was searched at a border patrol in Sierra Blanca, Texas. Heroin was uncovered, alongside a loaded firearm, reports MTV.

The rapper was detained on Wednesday night (October, 9 2012) but wasn’t arrested, after Brian Keith Jones – a man on the bus with him – admitted to being the proprietor of the 0.64 ounces of heroin, more than 10 pounds of marijuana and a loaded .45-caliber pistol. He was, of course, subsequently arrested after the dogs sniffed out his batch of illegal stuff. “It is my understanding a member of my staff made an unfortunate decision to bring unlawful materials onto our tour bus that resulted in his arrest this morning,” NME reported Nelly as saying. “Neither I nor anyone else on the tour bus was aware of his decision to bring these on board. Law enforcement officials did not press charges against anyone other than that individual.”

Sierra Blanca seems like a honey trap for celebs that insist on smuggling narcotics: Willie Nelson, Armie Hammer, Snoop Dogg and, most recently, Fiona Apple have all been arrested for drug possession in the Texas town. "Most of the people were very nice to me," Apple said of her arrest. "There are four of you out there, and I want you to know I heard everything you did, I wrote it all down with your names and everything you did and said stupidly thinking I couldn't hear and see you."

Fiona Apple Concerns Fans With House Of Blues Performance 3301680 News

Fiona Apple was back on the stage on Monday evening (September 24, 2012), though did little to ease the concerns of her legion of fans by looking “worse for wear” and appearing “thinner than usual”, according to the New York Daily News.

It was Apple’s first public appearance since her release from jail earlier this month. The 35-year-old was arrested after being stopped at the Texas border and found to be in possession of hashish. She was promptly booked and spent an evening in the local county jail before being released on a $10,000 bond. Several days later, the singer-songwriter slammed law enforcements officials at her show in Houston, saying, “I want you to know that I heard everything you did. I wrote it all down with your names and everything you did and said, stupidly thinking that I couldn't hear or see you.” Rusty Fleming, of the Hudspeth County Sheriff’s Office was not amused and told Apple in an open letter to TMZ.com, “First, Honey, I'm already more famous than you, I don't need your help…However, it would appear that you need mine. Two weeks ago nobody in the country cared about what you had to say. Now that you've been arrested it appears your entire career has been jump started. Don't worry, Sweetie, I won't bill you.” Unsurprisingly the Daily Mail has also waded in on Apple’s appearance on Monday, describing her as looking “shockingly gaunt.”

The singer’s tour continues this week in Charlotte, Durham, Clearwater and Miami Beach. Her fourth studio album is out now – its title? ‘The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do.’

Fiona Apple Should ‘Shut Up And Sing’, Says County Sheriff’s Department 3300541 News

Fiona Apple’s arrest for possession of hash and marijuana at the Texas border appears to have grown into a far more serious story. The singer-songwriter publically blasted four officers for allegedly mistreating her during the arrest, though a spokesman for the Hudspeth County Sheriff Department has hit back in a pretty aggressive way.

According to TMZ.com, public information officer Rusty Fleming said in a rambling statement that Apple had threatened to make the cops “f*cking famous” as a punishment for their appropriate actions. The statement – directed towards Apple – reads, “First, Honey, I’m already more famous than you, I don’t need your help. However, it would appear that you need mine…Two weeks ago nobody in the country cared about what you had to say, - now that you’ve been arrested it appears your entire career has been jump-started. Don’t worry Sweetie, I won’t bill you.” The 35-year-old garnered critical acclaim for her 1996 debut album ‘Tidal’ and received the Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance in 1998. Nevertheless, Mr Fleming raged on, “I don’t know you but I’m sure you’re an awesome and talented young woman and even though I’m not a fan of yours, I am sure there are thousands of them out there, and I’m sure that they would just as soon you get this all behind you and let you go back to what you do best—so my last piece of advice is simple “just shut-up and sing.”

Since issuing the statement, Rusty phoned into TMZ.com Live to continue his rant. Fiona Apple is yet to respond to the comments.

Hands Up: Fiona Apple Admits The Cannabis Was Hers 3291727 News

The singer Fiona Apple has admitted that she was the owner of the drugs found in her possession in a small Texan town yesterday (September 20, 2012). Apple, who has recently released her first studio album in seven years, to great acclaim, was trying to cross the Mexican border when the discovery was made. The singer’s tour bus was searched in Sierra Blanca, when the cannabis was found and she spent last night in jail.

Fiona was released from jail this morning after posting $10,000 bail. The local Sherriff’s office said that her stay had passed “without incident,” BBC News reported. They also confirmed that she had been found with four grams of hash in her possession. The other seven people on the tour bus were allowed to continue travelling, after Apple admitted that the drugs were hers. Rusty Fleming, of the Sheriff’s office stated that the singer had been “respectful and calm” but added that she became “concerned” when she discovered that she would have to remain in jail overnight. Her scheduled concert in Austin tonight has been cancelled.

Fiona Apple’s new album, entitled The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do reached number three in the US charts. She’s not the only musician to have been caught out in Sierra Blanca, either, Snoop Dogg, Armie Hammer and Willie Nelson have all been found in possession of drugs there in recent months.
